Furniture without nails

5-day course, practical instruction in making furniture without nails, screws or glue led by Richard Vaughan of richardvaughan.com.au saw 30+ students from 5 villages learn how to make tables and stools for homes and new products for sale at markets. Students also received valuable training in tool maintenance. Emphasising local materials, the course reignited interest in traditional designs. These students returned to their villages with donated tools to share the knowledge and reconnect elders and youth through a positive, shared experience.

Atoll farming

Floristry

Promoting horticulture and training women’s groups in floral arrangements as a way to generate income, beautify villages and save money.

Lap’lang Facility

Completion of a fully equipped training facility. Made from local materials and containing accommodation and internal kitchen, bathroom and classroom, the facility enables live-in training sessions and a space where women can come together. The facility also serves as a demonstration site for a Clivus Multrum community composting toilet.
